Bruce Subbert was born on Jan. 7th, 1940, in Fairmont, MN, the son of George and Jeanetta Subbert. He loved being active outdoors, gardening, hunting, and fishing were some of his favorites. He was a member of several outdoor conservation groups, dedicated to preserving the wildlife and all of Minnesota’s natural resources that Bruce was passionate about. He was a friend indeed to all who knew him, he had personal business cards printed with the phrase “A friend indeed” that he gave to everyone he met. Anyone who met Bruce liked him immediately and became extended family. Bruce was a gentle giant, gifted with incredible superhuman strength, and a loving heart. He was a very loyal, hardworking farmhand for many years for a local family who remained in his life even after Bruce moved to Brainerd. Bruce remained active in his love of the outdoors after moving to Brainerd, enjoying many fishing and hunting expeditions with his friends from the area. Bruce developed a love of drawing and painting later in life that he shared with friends and family. He painted the world through his eyes, taking him back to the outdoors and all the places that he loved so much. He created many portraits of wildlife, fish, people, and farm equipment that adorned the walls of his residence. Those closest to him enjoyed his creations and were often gifted with them. Though there were many miles between them, Bruce and his sister Betty in CA remained very close. The two shared a very special bond that will be treasured by her dearly. He had many nieces and nephews that he taught how to farm, fish, and hunt. Bruce was loved by many, and all who were blessed to know him will miss him greatly.
Bruce was preceded in death by his mother Jeanetta, his father George, and his sister Elaine Swenson (Subbert). He is survived by his loving sister Betty Krahmer (Subbert) of Poway CA, David Subbert of Fairmont, MN, and many nieces and nephews across the country who loved him very much.
