Jackie Allen Owen

June 14, 1932 — November 22, 2021

Jackie [Jack] Allen Owen was born on June 14, 1932 in Kalamazoo, MI to Andrew and Hattie Owen. During his senior year in High School, Jack felt the calling to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Air Force. Jack spent time stationed in Korea during the Korean War. While stationed in Roswell NM, he met his future wife, Eleanor [Christiansen] of Bemidji, MN. The couple were married in May, of 1954, and set up residence in Bemidji, MN. Jack was honorably discharged in October 1955. Jack missed the opportunity to serve and re-enlisted in the Air Force, serving until he was honorably discharged in July, 1959. In 1962 Jack moved his family to Minneapolis, MN. Once again, he felt a calling to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army two more times. Jack was honorably discharged for the last time in September 1964. Upon his discharge from the military, he went to work for the V.A. Hospital in Minneapolis. With ongoing health issues resulting from an injury during his military service, he took a medical retirement in 1978. During this year, he moved his family to Baxter, MN, where he lived with his family for the last 43 years.

Jack had a passion for serving others, especially veterans. He spent many hours/miles volunteering to drive the D.A.V. van to St. Cloud and Minneapolis, and was actively involved in the local D.A.V. chapter. He was also actively involved in the local V.F.W. chapter, and served as a Color Guard member.

Jack had a knack for striking up a conversation with just about anybody. Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in the yard and bowling. He especially looked forward to Friday WII bowling with his son and grandchildren.

Jack will be sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor; sons: Kelly [Karrie] Owen, Darin [Cathy] Owen; daughters: Carla Owen, Karen Owen, and Carolyn Owen; grandchildren: Kyle, Khloe, Devin and Magnus; brother, Kenny Owen; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Hattie; 6 brothers and 2 sisters; son, Stuart; and granddaughter, Kaylyn.

Memorial services for Jackie will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Halvorson Taylor Life Events Center in Brainerd with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, Minnesota, at a later date.
