It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Jean Gilb, 80 years old, of Northome, MN, who was welcomed to her heavenly home on September 22, 2025 surrounded by family. Barbara was born in Milroy, MN to Nick and Barbara Ludwig and her life was a beautiful testament to love, family, and the simple joys that brought her fulfillment.
Barbara was a woman of unwavering faith, strength, warmth, and kindness. She spent 62 wonderful years as the devoted wife of John Gilb, and their bond, built on love and partnership, was a beacon to all who knew them. Their 62nd wedding anniversary would have been in October.
Barbara was the proud mother of four boys—Todd, Paul, Scott, and Wade—and she poured her heart and soul into raising them with love, guidance, and a sense of adventure. She was also an adoring grandmother to Mitchell, Brandon, Rhylee, Taylor, Brady, Zachary, Jacob, Jarod, Ashley, Bryann and Gage. She was a great-grandmother to many, a role she embraced with joy and tenderness, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of her family.
Barbara was a woman who lived life to the fullest, and her passions were as vibrant as her spirit. An avid hunter, she reveled in the great outdoors, often found in the quiet beauty of nature, surrounded by the land she so dearly loved. Every day, she took great pride in working on her land, nurturing it with the same care and dedication she gave her family.
Known for her warm heart and world-famous cookies—made from a secret recipe no one could quite match—she found joy in cooking and creating a home where everyone felt welcome. Her deer camp meatball recipe will be attempted by many future generations.
Though Barbara leaves us too soon, her legacy of strength, devotion, and joy will endure through the generations. She was preceded in death by her beloved son Paul and grandson Brady, both of whom she will forever hold close in her heart.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband John, her sons Todd, Scott (Alycia), and Wade (Shannon), daughter in law Jeri (Paul) and her sisters Rainy and Joni, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many other loved ones who will miss her deeply.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Barbara’s spirit will live on in the stories we share, the memories we treasure, and the love she so graciously gave. Her light will never dim.
