Bernard “Butchie” Grant Butcher III, 32, of Buhl passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in Essentia St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth. Butchie was born to Bernard Jr. and Stephanie Butcher on July 11,1987 in Minneapolis. Born at just 26 weeks, he was a 1 lb 7oz preemie baby. Butchie graduated from Cambridge High School in 2007. Butchie took part in many research studies that now help many preemie babies have a full recovery. Butchie is a child of God. With the strength of our Lord, he has beaten the odds of only living to be 10. In 32 beautiful years, our family has gathered countless times at the hospital to say our "goodbyes." The doctors would come in with bad news after bad news. Butchie would continue to fight, day after day, week after week, with his family praying at his side. Those "goodbyes" were turned into miracles, with the wonderful news that Butchie was coming HOME! Butchie endured more pain than anyone can imagine. He was a fighter, and the strongest little man we have ever met. He enjoyed life to the absolute fullest. He loved to spend his weekends at the racetrack and his weekdays making money with mom and dad in the semi. Butchie had a great sense of humor and the most contagious smile. You would always find him laughing anytime the kids were getting yelled at. He would eat Reese's Peanut Butter Cups until he got sick, if you would let him. You often heard a "heeey'' as you cracked a can open, in hopes it was an ice-cold beer for him. Or possibly a, "I go," if a door opened/ closed, and if you were making plans or talking about going racing. Butchie had very little communication skills, but never underestimate that, as he was always listening and very aware of what was going on around him. Butchie Butcher will be missed by so many, far and near. He was found by his dad, sleeping in his chair, with no pulse. CPR was performed for 30+ minutes ... Once again, Butchie showed us the fight he had in him. We got a pulse! Butchie was then transported to St. Mary's Emergency Room, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Although this fight didn't end with the good news that we all had been praying for, we know he fought a long hard fight. His family and friends find peace knowing he is with Jesus, and that he was met at the gates of Heaven by his sister, Jordan, as well as other family and friends. He now gets to dance on the streets of gold, and race a bad fast race car. He is no longer in pain, he no longer has to fight, and most of all, he is no longer a prisoner of his crippled body. Butchie was preceded in death by his sister, Jordan Butcher; grandparents, Bernard and Betty Butcher, and Marrgie Shake; as well as his aunt, Helen Hinch. Butchie is survived by his parents, Butch and Stephanie Butcher; sister, Margo Butcher; brothers, Dolton (Ashley) Butcher and Chuck Butcher; grandparents, Liga Shake (Brad Rogers), and Steven Shake; nieces and nephews, Izabella, Stratton, Tucker, Landon and Briggs Butcher.
