It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Calvin Eugene Wallin, who departed this world peacefully on May 6, 2026, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Born on January 30, 1939, at home, in Pelican Township, Calvin lived a life filled with love, commitment, and service.
The son of Oscar and Ruth (Siefert) Wallin, Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jerry, James, and Joe Wallin. He leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his cherished and beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley J. Conner Wallin, whom he married on June 11, 1966, in Dodge, North Dakota. Together, Calvin and Shirley raised their four children, Mark and Angie Wallin, Daniel Wallin, Brian and Valarie Wallin, and Melinda and Tony Loberg, instilling in them the same loving spirit and devotion that Calvin embodied throughout his life.
Calvin's life was enriched by the joy of his 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, who will continue to cherish the memory of their grandfather's unwavering love and guidance. He is also survived by his sisters, Caroljean Weise and Jeanette Fee, and brothers, John and Paul Wallin.
A proud graduate of Pequot Lakes High School in 1959 and St. Cloud State University in 1964, Calvin dedicated his life to education and community service. He began his teaching career in Dodge, ND, in 1965, and Ashby, MN in 1966, and continued at Pequot Lakes from 1969 until 1982. His passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom as he taught firearms safety for 53 years and supported local sports as a member of the football chain gang for over 50 years and scoreboard operator for volleyball and basketball games for over 30 years.
Calvin also operated Wallin's Berry Farm for more than four decades, sharing the fruits of his hard labor with his community. His commitment to service was evident in his six years with the Minnesota National Guard and his involvement with the First Baptist Church in Baxter, where he served as an usher for fifteen years. As a Deacon at Pequot Baptist Church and a dedicated member of Nisswa Community Church, Calvin's faith was the cornerstone of his life.
An avid outdoorsman, Calvin found joy in the wilderness, sharing his love of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area with family and friends. His passion for hunting and fishing was exceeded only by his wholehearted love and belief in Jesus Christ. Calvin's unwavering faith was his guiding light, and he took every opportunity to share the importance of accepting Jesus Christ as one's savior.
A celebration of Calvin's life will be held on May 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, located at 7398 Fairview Rd N, Baxter, MN 56468. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Calvin are invited to join in honoring the memory of a truly remarkable man whose love and legacy will endure for generations.
In lieu of flowers, Calvin's family kindly requests donations be made in Calvin's memory to support Minnesota Teen Fishing Challenge. His kind spirit, unwavering faith, and gentle heart will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
