Carlene Frances Jaros

February 19, 1933 — May 6, 2022

Carlene Frances Jaros (born Carlene Olson, formerly Carlene Lastovich) of Pillager, MN went home to the Lord on May 5, 2022. She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus with family by her side.
Carlene was born on February 19, 1933 in Hibbing, MN. Carlene was one of four daughters born to Frances (Berg) and Carl Olson. Carlene was very close to her sisters Patricia (Johnson), Betty (Hansen), and Yvonne (Gaultiere). Carlene and her sisters grew up spending time at the family cabin enjoying the lakes, trees, and the beauty of God’s creation. As a child, she also began dancing, a passion that she would carry throughout her life.
Carlene graduated from Hibbing High School. She was a true life-long learner in that she continued her education throughout her life in a variety of ways, including college courses, community education and various certifications. Her pursuit of education was centered around her own love of learning and a desire to be highly qualified in her work. She held a variety of occupations throughout her life. Her career path was always shaped by her compassion and sense of community. Many of her occupations involved improving her local community and benefiting people with physical or mental disabilities. Dance was also always part of her life; whether she was teaching dance at the ballet school she owned in Hibbing or teaching fitness classes to elderly people.
Carlene’s greatest legacy is her family. She married Daniel Lastovich, Jr.and together they had four children: Steven, Jeff, Lisa, and Lee. Carlene’s family was her world. She was an incredible mother, instilling in her children her love of the natural world, her passion for learning, and most of all her faith in God. She raised her children to be kind, compassionate, and faithful.
When her children grew up, married, and had children of their own, they remained very close to their mother. Carlene was a beloved “Grammy” and “Gubby” to her 14 grandchildren. Eventually, she was “Grammy” and “Gubby” to seven great-grandchildren (including a namesake) as well.
Carlene was, and is, the center of her family. She is remembered for her compassion for others, her love of dance and nature, her beauty, grace, gentleness, her deep love for her family, and her unshakeable faith in God. Though our hearts are broken, and we will always miss her, we take great comfort in knowing our beautiful Mom and Grammy is now dancing in heaven..
Carlene is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and grandson, Corbin. She will be missed by her four children, Steven (Stephanie) Lastovich, Jeff (Janice) Lastovich, Lisa (Andy) Stone, Lee (Eva) Lastovich; grandchildren, Leah, Ben, Nathan, Sam, Tyler, Anders, Zachary, Luke, Isaac, Brody, Jake, Matt and Beth; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10th 2022, at 1:00 pm at Motley Free Methodist Church in Motley, with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Family will gather one hour prior to the service. Internment following a luncheon at Rail Prairie Union Cemetery in Cushing, MN.
