Derold Lowell Noland, Jr., - Davis passed away peacefully at home on April
24, 2024, with the love of his life, Charlotte, and his brother, Mike, and his wife
Cecie, by his side. Derold was born on March 11, 1942 in Park Rapids, MN, the
son of Derold Noland and Doris (Saathoff). Derold’s father passed away in an
accident when he was 3 years old. His Mother remarried Harry James Davis.
Derold’s family moved around throughout Minnesota and finally ended up in
Faribault where he graduated from high school in 1960.
On May 17, 1975, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Charlotte
Ann Nelson. They resided in Elk River, MN for a number of years but then moved
to Maple Grove, MN where they resided until they both were retired by 2016.
From there they sold their townhome and moved to live at their dream come true,
their place at Lake Placid in Pillager, MN. (which they refer to as their little piece
of heaven on earth). They bought this property in 1985 to start getting it ready for
retirement and have lived there for almost 40 years. They would have been
married 50 years in 2025.
Derold enjoyed going out to Colorado to go elk hunting with his brother, Jim, and
brother-in-laws and father-in-law from Wisconsin. He also loved to golf, shoot
trap and skeet with his brother, Mike, go fishing in Lake Superior and ice fishing
in our Lake Placid, loved his gardening and taking extra, good care of his lawn.
But his pride and joy was the winemaking that he did and always shared with
everyone, especially the 3:00 Boy’s Club! He was also the score keeper and
manager of the 3:00 bowling scores for the neighborhood bowling league. He
was pretty even-tempered about things unless it came to politics, then you saw
the other side of him as he was a staunch Republican as I’m sure many of you
knew!! His faith was very important to him and he is home now with our dear Lord.
Derold leaves behind his loving wife whose heart is broken, Charlotte, son,
Jeffrey Noland Davis, brothers Mike (Cecie) Davis, Jim (Wendy) Davis, David
(Yvonne) Davis, and his other long-time friend who was like a brother to him, Roy
Brandon and his wife Pam.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Derold
Noland, Doris Davis, and Jim Davis, brothers Steve Davis and Gary Davis.
He will be deeply missed by all of Char’s family in Wisconsin, Nebraska and Colorado, as
he enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could and they all loved him
so much as he was such a gentle soul and kind spirit. He left Char remembering
that twinkle in his eyes just like his Mom always had.
A memorial service for Derold will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, May 10th, 2024, at the
Motley Free Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. A gathering of
family and friends will start at 10:00AM.
Derold loved his country and was proud to enlist in the Army in June 1962, for 3
years as a Spec E4, Air Defense, First Class Missileman, and was honorably
discharged in June 1965.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials will be dedicated to Derold's wishes.
