DONALD G. JENSEN


Colonel (Ret) Donald G. Jensen, 93 entered into GOD’S Kingdom on Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Farmside Senior Living in Backus. He was born on June 27, 1931, in Brainerd, Minnesota to George and Freda (Rasmussen) Jensen. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1949. He married Lois L (Bedal) Jensen on October 11, 1952, in Brainerd. They have been married for 72 years. He was a Brainerd resident all of his life.


He enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard on February 28, 1949, and served on Active Duty with the 194th Tank Battalion for two years during the Korean War. He was commissioned on April 11, 1956, as a Second Lieutenant of Armor and attended the U.S. Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky. On September 5, 1963, he transferred to the Quartermaster Branch. On July 26, 1967, he was assigned to the Adjutant General’s Staff. He achieved the rank of Colonel on April 1, 1981. He was a graduate of the U.S. Armor School, U.S. Quartermaster School, Command & General Staff College, U.S. Army Logistics Management Center and many other military schools. He retired from the Military on July 1, 1991, after serving 40 years in the Armed Forces of the United States, on Federal active duty and the Army National Guard.


He was employed at Camp Ripley in the USPFO Logistics Division from 1956 to 1986. On March 1, 1986, he was appointed (Military Active Duty Tour) by the National Guard Bureau, Washington, D.C. as the United States Property and Fiscal Officer for the State of Minnesota and served in this capacity until his retirement on July 1, 1991. In this assignment he was the accountable officer for all the Federal Funds and Property in the State of Minnesota for the Army and Air National Guard. During this period, he was awarded the National Guard Bureau’s Eagle Award and the Legion of Merit Decoration. He was memorialized in the Court of Honor at Camp Ripley on September 18, 2006.

He was a member of Timberwood Church in Nisswa, Life Member of the American Legion Post 255, Life member of the National Guard Association, and a Life Member of the 194th Tank Regiment.


He is survived by his wife Lois; three sons, Mark (Renee) Jensen of Nisswa, MN, Jack (Char) Jensen of Grand Coulee, WA, Scott Jensen of Oronoco, MN, two daughters, Jill (Tom) Vice of Baxter, MN, Dawn (Tim) Norton of Estero, FL. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George M. Jensen and Freda E. Jensen.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 10th, 2025, at the Halvorson Taylor Life Events Center in Brainerd, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, with military rites by the National Guard Military Funeral Honors.
