Elaine Stowell

Elaine Stowell, age 96, passed away on March 5, 2020. Elaine was born on September 23, 1923 in Minneapolis to John & Agnes (Grundstrom) Papostolou. On September 20, 1946 she married Leonard Stowell in South Dakota, they made their home in Lauderdale, MN, moving to Florida after retirement and returning to Minnesota for the summers. Elaine joined the Peace Corps and was stationed in the Fiji Islands. There she got to meet Raymond Burr (Perry Mason). When back home she directed plays performed at the Lauderdale School. She worked as an accountant for several different businesses. She loved to travel, as they took many trips including Spain, Australia, and South America and Greece visiting with relatives. They went on several cruises as well, her last cruise taken at the age of 92 with good friends Pat and Trish. Elaine was a huge Elvis Presley fan, once flying to Las Vegas to see him perform at the Hilton. She also visited Graceland. Elaine became interested in working with ceramics and had a great talent for painting them, doing so into her 90's. She lived independently in Florida until her death and as she wished, "No Nursing Home!" Left to cherish her memory are her children: Don (Linda) Stowell, Roger (Joanne) Stowell, Rodney (Anne) Stowell and Kevin (Dawn) Stowell; grandchildren: Tammy, Steven, Robert, Nick, Todd, Toni, Troy, Tim, and Terese; many great grandchildren. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette & Bill Hohman; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Laura Stowell; grandson, Mike Roney. A gathering of family and friends for Elaine will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Lum Park in Brainerd, Pavilion 2 from 12-2PM.
