Fred Jillson

Fred Jillson passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2026 with a visitation one hour prior at Halvorson-Taylor Funeral Home, 512 South 8th Street, Brainerd, MN.

Fred was born on June 17, 1945, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Vernon and Ruth (Anthony) Jillson. When he was seven years old, his family moved to Deadwood, South Dakota, where he lived until the age of 14. He then moved to Brainerd, Minnesota, where he made his home for the remainder of his life.

Fred Graduated from Washington High School in 1964. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army, spending the majority of his service at Fort Greely, Alaska. On December 2, 1967, he married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Jabas.

Fred spent several years professionally racing snowmobiles on the circuit for Scorpion, Artic Cat, and Chaparral. After his racing career, he worked for the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs as a maintenance worker at the Brainerd Armory, retiring in 2000. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and the love he had for his family and friends.

Fred is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 58 years; his son, Paul (Becky); grandson, Levi; sister, JoAnn Ostrowski (Greg); brother, William; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ronald, Gary, Vernon, Erwin and Leslie
