Gertrude H Rohloff

October 26, 1938 — March 19, 2024

Gertrude Harriett Rohloff (Vogt) of Baxter, MN was welcomed into heaven on March 19, 2024. Gert was born October 26,1938 in Brainerd, MN to Robert and Helen Vogt, the 7th of 10 children. During Gert’s high school years she had several jobs. She worked as a car hop, at a dry cleaner, at Craguns Resort and at Northwest paper company as a paper fanner. She always wanted to become a nurse, but instead went out west to her sister Shirley’s home to help nurse her husband through cancer.

On July 11, 1959, Gert married her high school sweetheart, Reuben Rohloff. They were married for 54 years. During their marriage, Gert was a full-time mother and homemaker. She was also an in home day care provider for 43 years. Her day care kids lovingly called her Gertie. She poured her heart into each child and it was evident by the fact that multiple generations of daycare kids returned for a little of Gertie’s love. In 1993 Gert’s Roll In Daycare was voted daycare of the year. One of the highlights of each year was the daycare graduation and picnic for the little ones that were entering Kindergarten that fall. Each graduate had a cap and gown and a graduation certificate. There was a full program with songs and talents on display, even some of the older kiddos came back for the picnic. She loved children so much and wanted them to succeed in whatever they chose to do. If you were in her daycare; you were part of our family.

Gert was also a wonderful baker. She baked Christmas cookies for the local banks and also for Franklin Jr High school. At Christmas time our kitchen table was full of delicious treats. She also took up cake decorating and made many beautiful wedding cakes and birthday cakes for family and friends, and of course her daycare kids.

One of Gert’s greatest treasures were her grandchildren, 8 of them, and 5 great grandchildren. She loved being part of their lives. She and Reuben enjoyed going to their athletic games and music concerts, and celebrating each

accomplishment. Birthdays were celebrated with an early morning phone call from Grandma Gert and happy birthday sung to you over the phone. She wanted to be the first to wish you Happy Birthday. She faithfully prayed for each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. That they would know Jesus as their personal savior and that they would let God lead them as they walked through this life. Gert loved Jesus most of all. Her oldest sister, Joyce took her to church and it was there that Gert gave her heart to Jesus.

For many years Gert and Reuben ran a Sunday School bus route, picking up children and adults that did not have a way to church. She made many wonderful friends and helped many come to know Jesus. Gert and Reuben became members of Lakewood Evangelical Church where she continued to teach Sunday school until she was 80 years old. Gert leaves behind her a legacy of strong faith, great love and the strength of family.

Gertrude is preceded in death by her husband, Reuben and granddaughter, Hope Ann Ohman; her parents, Robert and Helen Vogt; her siblings: Shirley, Bob, Joyce, Carl, Glen and Kenneth.

Gert will be deeply missed by her children: Tammy (Mike) McDonald, Todd (Kathy Silvers) Rohloff, Thom (partner Curt Hannula) Rohloff, Teresa (Travis) Ohman; grandchildren: Tyler (Kristen) Rohloff, Trevor Rohloff, Michael McDonald, Matthew (Kaitlin) McDonald, Mark McDonald, Kathryn McDonald, Adam Ohman, Erin Ohman;

great-grandchildren: Gavyn and Chase Rohloff, Claire McDonald, Ezri and Egan McDonald; brothers: Darrell (Janice) Vogt, Duane Vogt, sister Betty (Bill) Pajari; sister-in-law, Virginia Vogt; along with many nieces and nephews.
