Herman 'Jim' Walters

Herman James “Jim” Walters III passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at age 87, in Brainerd, Minnesota. Born February 24, 1938, in Arthyde, Minnesota he served honorably in the United State Air Force from 1956 to 1960. After service, Jim built a life in the Brainerd area, finding employment as an iron worker and marrying the love of his life, Lorraine Isle.

Jim is survived by his children, Susan Smart (Keith), Mark Walters (Brandy), Dale Walters, and Brenda Wilshusen (Lynn), as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, his daughter Lorrie, his son-in-law Tom, and his parents, Herman James Walters II and Inga Bakke.

He will be remembered for his love of all animals, his sense of humor, and the joy he found in connecting with the people in his community.

A visitation will take place on January 8, 2026, at Halverson-Taylor Funeral Home from 5 to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Riverside Union Church on January 9, 2026, at 11am, with a luncheon to follow at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life.
