Jack Norwood December 1, 1937 – June 28, 2026
Jack walked into the gates of Heaven on Sunday, June 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jack was born on December 1, 1937, in Brainerd, Minnesota, to Arlie and Eileen (Spiess) Norwood. He graduated from Brainerd High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy for four years as a Sonar Man, Private Second Class. During his military service, he was stationed in San Diego, California, served aboard the USS Gregory (DD-802), and toured the Philippines, Vietnam, and Japan.
Following his military service, Jack dedicated 32 years to the Brainerd School District, working on the buildings and grounds. He took great pride in maintaining the schools and creating safe, welcoming places for students, staff, and the community.
Jack was a devoted member of Casino Assembly of God Church. He was known for his unwavering prayer life. Although he never personally struggled with addiction, he faithfully volunteered with Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge for many years, encouraging and praying alongside those seeking hope and healing. He also enjoyed attending men's Bible studies and sobriety support groups, where his wisdom, compassion, and faith touched countless lives.
Jack is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl Norwood (Goedderz); his children, James (Rachel) Norwood and Joseph (Jenna) Norwood; his cherished grandchildren, Brandt, Kennedy, Callaway, and Coralyn; his siblings, Curtis (Bonny) Norwood, Kay Negley, and Arla (Eddie) Blea; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Eileen Norwood; his siblings, Jay Norwood, Joyce Kaul, and Janet Tesch; and his brother-in-law, Robert Negley.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Halvorson-Taylor Funeral Home. A celebration of Jack's life will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Casino Assembly of God Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge.
