James Lynn Mcfarland

James Lynn McFarland, 69, of Brainerd MN, lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Jim was born on September 10, 1951 to Dr. James R McFarland and Betty (Richardson) McFarland in Oklahoma City OK. He grew up in Bartlesville OK where he graduated High School. Jim attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and graduated in 1980 with a degree in Performance of Guitar. He later received his CD Counseling degree and continued working in that field until retirement. Jim also worked as a musician with several bands throughout the years and was so well known for his outstanding ability on guitar. People admired his vast knowledge of musical composition and theory. Aside from his musical friends and family, he was also connected to the Native community and culture, AA Groups and close to members who shared his same passion in ‘Course in Miracles’. He also obtained his certification in Reiki. Jim was a wonderful father with a calm and patient demeanor, and a great friend to so many. He touched people’s lives in the most gentle and caring way with his kindheartedness. Jim was quiet, but yet witty - always ready with a quick come-back that ended with his contagious smile! Jim’s zest for life and desire for knowledge never quit. He loved to travel to different countries to learn about their culture and communities. He could never pass up a good UFO or Bigfoot story. His outdoor adventures included camping, fishing, boating, motorcycling and watching good Ol’ Okie Noodlin’. He never lost his love to participate in a good jam session, or attend a great concert. Friends and family never heard the end about his passion for his favorite College Football team, Oklahoma Sooners! Left with so many wonderful memories, but with sad hearts are his daughters, Jaime McFarland (Jason Leifermann) Brainerd MN and Bridget Miller Los Angeles CA, brother Paul McFarland, Norman OK, Step-Mother Sylvia McFarland Bartlesville OK, half-sister Cristin Bass Temple TX, step-sisters Keven Woodall and Kim Toulouse Bartlesville OK, nephews Clayton McFarland and Hayden McFarland Bartlesville OK. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister Heather (McFarland) Henson. Our cherished memories and stories of Jim will live on forever. A memorial service for Jim will be held on August 1st at the Eagles Club in Brainerd MN from 1 pm to 6 pm.
