James Wesley Sandin (Wes) was born August 23, 1932 to Alfred E. and Esther (Peterson) Sandin in Newman Grove, Nebraska, and passed away peacefully in Brainerd, Minnesota on November 19, 2022 at the age of 90 years. He grew to manhood in various places around Minnesota, such as Watertown, Sturgeon Lake, Milaca, and Princeton, where he attended high school.
He was united in marriage to Bonnie (Traverse) Sandin on August 13th 1960 at the First Baptist Church in Park Rapids, Minnesota. They moved to Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, then Coon Rapids, and lastly settled on a farm in Kanabec County near Ogilvie, Minnesota.
To this union were born three children, Pamela, Mark and Shelley. He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Elving, Wendell, Dwight, and Clifton, and one sister, Elvira Cohrs.
He is survived by his sister, Priscilla of Los Angeles, CA, his three children, Pamela, Mark (Alisa) and Shelley, eight grandchildren Derek, Dylan (Kerri), Korey (Jenna), Loren (Amber), Hanna (Jesse), Justyna (Sam), Jared, and Jarome (Raina), fifteen great grandchildren, Skylar, Hendrick, Klara, Wayne, Lucy, Mabel, Naomi, Lincoln, Aurora, Reuben, Sophia, Leah, Rollie, Zoie, Wilder, and former wife, Bonnie.
Wes worked for Twin Cities Testing and Soil Exploration Company for over 35 years in St. Paul. He and a crew would travel around the country testing soil for large building projects, bridges, shopping malls and even the Brainerd High School. He retired on August 23, 1997 on his 65th birthday.
He enjoyed playing the card game Rook, bowling, being on the farm, identifying trees, helping neighbors and relatives, spending time with family, cutting firewood and enjoying good food, especially food prepared by someone else.
A memorial service will be Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter, Minnesota with Pastor Matt Nagel officiating.
