Jimmie Dean Carper, age 79, of Merrifield, passed away on November 18th, 2023 at Southview Acres Health Care Center.

Jim was born to Chalmer "Jack" and Frieda (Gocken) on March 11, 1944 in Yankton, SD. He married Mary Ellen Meinders in Worthington, MN on June 14th, 1964.

Jim graduated from school in Lake Park, IA. Enlisted in the US Air Force in 1962 and served 20 years, including a tour in Vietnam where he was wounded in combat. While stationed in Europe he was the 1971 class C world bow hunting champion and a certified archery instructor. Later he would spend over 10 years as a tutor at Brainerd's technical college.

Jim enjoyed traveling, reading, computers, pottery, and working on his land.

Jim will be missed by his son, Robert; brothers: Leroy (Donna) Carper, Glenn (Nancy) Carper; siblings-in-law: Carol Pospisil, Rosalie (Bill) Eylens, Jerry (Carol) Meinders, Connie Ostrem and Pam (Douglas) Hartman; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Mary; half-sister Pat Gerig; and infant sister Doris Faye Carper.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 1, at Halvorson-Taylor Life events Center. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls.
