John Schroder

Rev. John L. Schroder, 90 year old resident of Brainerd, MN passed away Wednesday, May 25th 2022 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Faith Baptist Church in Brainerd, MN. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Tuesday at Faith Baptist Church in Brainerd, MN. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brainerd, MN. Caring for John and his family is the Halvorson-Taylor Funeral Home in Brainerd, MN.
John Lyle Schroder, age 90, of Brainerd, entered his heavenly home on May 25, 2022. John was born to Lyle and Frances Schroder in Galt, Iowa on January 25, 1932 and grew up on a family farm. At 17, while at an evangelistic meeting in a small, country schoolhouse, he accepted the Lord as his Savior. From that point, his life goal became serving the Lord. After graduating from Dows High School in Dows, IA, he attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, MN where he met, and 2 years later married, Patricia Skogerbo, his wife of 63 years. He earned his B.A. in 1955 and was ordained in 1958. He pastored a church in Myrtle, MN before being accepted by the Fellowship of Baptists for Home Missions. He and Pat were church planters for 38 years where John started, pastored and later constructed the churches. They established Faith Baptist Church in Fort Dodge, IA, First Baptist Church in Hibbing, MN, Brookdale Baptist Church in Moorhead, MN, Woodland Baptist Church in Fergus Falls, MN and Heritage Baptist Church in Duluth, MN. Later he retired from church planting, resided in Brainerd, and was actively involved in building programs, camp maintenance and Bible teaching at Faith Baptist Church. John served God faithfully, loved people, was a hard worker and enjoyed the outdoors.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Pat (2016), his father Lyle Schroder (1937), his stepfather, Raymond Clark, mother, Frances Clark, and sister Elaine Matykiewicz. He will be greatly missed by his children: Tim (Cindy) of Bangor, ME, Nate (Gail) of St. Cloud, MN, Luke (Valerie) of Billings, MT, Titus (Christina) of Buckeye, AZ, Jewel (Dwight) Nordstrom of McKinney, TX, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and siblings Dennis Clark, Virginia Hulsing and Arland Clark.
