Joyce Adele Fust

Joyce Adele Fust, age 89, of Brainerd, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Woodland Good Samaritan residence in Brainerd.

Joyce was born on August 2, 1935, in Tracy, Minnesota to Ervin and Lucille (Peterson) Reinert, and grew up on the family farm near Tracy, Minnesota. After graduating from high school in Tracy, Joyce enrolled at Mankato State College, where she met Walter Fust. They married in December 1957. After graduation from Mankato State, Joyce taught elementary classes at schools in Truman, Litchfield and Dassel, Minnesota.

In 1975, Joyce and her family moved to Brainerd, where for many years Walter and Joyce owned the Eastgate Mobile Home Park. Joyce continued working with students at Riverside Elementary in Brainerd, and after her retirement, Joyce carried on as a classroom volunteer at Riverside.

Joyce was an active member of Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd. She taught Sunday School and summer Bible School, volunteered at the church’s county fair food booth and for many church events, and was a long-time member of the Memorial Committee.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Matt (partner Steve Leech); grandchildren Freda Hawver Pachter and Jacob (wife Leah) Hawver Pachter; and her extended family in Minnesota and California.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Walter; her parents; and her three siblings, Jaqueline, Charles and Kaye.

A memorial service, and interment at Evergreen Cemetery, will be held at a later date.
