Leroy Smith

LeRoy W. Smith passed away peacefully September 28, 2019 at Essentia Health- St. Joseph’s Hospital with loving family by his side. Born October 27th, 1931 in rural Brainerd to parents, Dora and Woodrow Smith. He is survived by his wife, Jean Smith; children, Mike Smith, Kevin Smith, Brian Smith, and Eric Smith; step-children, Mike Ramig, Kenny Yde, Marty Yde, Sharon Yde, and Joy (Kipp); sisters, Donna (Jenson), Phyllis (Tilley), Della (Mimm), Patricia (Johnson) and Ruth (Hardy); brothers, Kenneth (Avarill) and Donald (Smith); many grand-children and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Craig Smith; stepson, Paul Yde Jr.; and brother, Keith Smith. He served in the army during the Korean War. He returned to work at Burlington Northern Railroad for over 40 years as a crane operator. He was a bowler, known for winning horseshoe contests, an avid fisherman and a deer hunter. We are all left with many great memories of outdoor activities and playing cards, even though no one was able to beat him playing cribbage. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service for LeRoy will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 2 at the Halvorson Taylor Funeral Home in Brainerd. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are with Halvorson Taylor Funeral Home in Brainerd.
