Loretta E Knudson

Loretta Esther (Johnson) Knudson, 91, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Essentia Health in Brainerd. Loretta was born on September 20, 1929 to Nels and Esther Johnson. She grew up on a farm east of Brainerd along with her siblings Alice and Arne and attended Brainerd schools. Loretta married Bob Knudson on June 2, 1950 and worked in the offices of Crow Wing Power and Light until they had their 4 children. She then raised her family and also had several part-time bookkeeping positions along the way. Loretta and Bob were long time members of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was active in many groups, one of her favorites being the quilting group. She enjoyed traveling with relatives and friends, sewing and other crafting, and always had baked goods ready if someone stopped by. Celebrating milestones of and holidays with family were very important, and she enjoyed all the planning and traditional preparations of these events. Loretta is survived by her children Karen Lander, Janet (Rick) Swanson and Gary Knudson; sister Alice Tuil, brother Arne (Lorraine) Johnson; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many, many good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband last year as well as her parents, son Greg Knudson and grandchildren Kati Knudson and Kyle Swanson. A memorial service celebrating Loretta’s life will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with visitation starting at 10:00. Interment will be by her husband’s side at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Trinity Lutheran Church youth group.
