Mark Belcher

Mark “Crash” Stephan Belcher, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2019. Mark was born on July 16, 1955 in Great Falls, Montana to Clemens & Betty Ann (Romsdahl) Belcher. Mark attended elementary school and was graduated from Windom area High School in 1973. He attended Worthington Community College and the University of Minnesota. Mark worked in the Windom area for J.E. Love Co. for several years. He relocated to California for two years and returned to the Brainerd Lakes area in 1986. Mark, his brother, Jon and father, Clem opened an Athletic Footwear and Clothing Store, “Mar-Jons” in the new Westgate Mall in Brainerd. Mark was married to Debra Smith on January 21, 1995. Brian Smith, Stacie Smith and Kyle Schaible became immediate family. Mark enjoyed sporting events: the MN NorthStar’s, The Wild, Vikings, Twins and the Gophers. His TV was always tuned into a game. He was a faithful reader of the Mpls Star Tribune sports page and enjoyed Sid Hartman’s columns and Sid’s Sunday Morning spot. He loved Mike Bialka’s sport stories of Warrior games in the Brainerd Dispatch. Mark listened to Collin McDonald’s broadcasts of Warrior football, basketball and baseball games. Mark and his wife, Deb enjoyed watching their son, Brian play football. They also attended basketball and baseball games when son, Kyle was playing. Mark also enjoyed playing golf, he played the Brainerd area courses. He also liked going back to Windom to visit friends and play golf. Mark is survived by his father, Clem Belcher of Baxter; mother, Betty Ann Belcher of East Gull Lake; sister, Jana (Jerry Schlink) Belcher of Eden Prairie; brother, Jonathan Belcher of East Gull Lake; nephews, Jax Belcher and Jack Schlink; niece, Savannah Belcher; aunt & uncle Gladys and Tom McGhee, of Swansboro, NC; cousin, Debra McGhee of Olney, MD; former wife, Deb Belcher of Brainerd lakes area; daughter, Stacie Smith of Laveen, AZ; sons: Brian Smith and Kyle Schaible of Brainerd lakes area. Mark is preceded in death by his grandparents. A celebration of Mark’s life will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:30AM at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mark’s favorite picnic lunch will be served in fellowship hall. Friends are encouraged to stay after the service and share a story they may have about “Crash”.
