Maurice Eugene “Maury” Mogensen passed away on March 6, 2021. He was born to the late Peter and Luella Mogensen on December 11, 1932 and was raised in the Brainerd area. Maurice was a graduate of Brainerd High School with the Class of 1950. Upon graduation, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy from 1950-1953. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Brainerd where he became involved in local Veteran’s Service Organizations. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and was the Post Commander for the Brainerd VFW Post 1647 in 1958-1959. Maurice was the last surviving member of the Brainerd VFW Post’s Last Man Supper Club, which included men who served in WWII and / or the Korean War. He was also a member of the local American Legion Post in Brainerd, MN. Maurice was instrumental in the building and placement of the WWII Veterans Memorial at Memorial Park in Brainerd which was dedicated in 2018. He was active in local sports and played baseball for several years in local leagues in and around Brainerd. In 1954 he was united in marriage to Lois Jane Larson and in 1959 they moved to St. Cloud, MN. The marriage was dissolved in the 1970’s and he was then united in marriage to Beverly Archibald in 1977. Maurice was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing whenever he could find the time. In his retirement, he and Beverly traveled the US and met and became friends with many other RV / Snowbirds as they traveled to and from their winter home in Arizona. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Luella Mogensen; brother, Anton “Tony” Mogensen; sister, Evelyn Wolvert; first wife, Lois and second wife, Beverly. He survived by sister, Lucille Schellin, brothers and sisters-in law, Anona Mogensen, Milton and Rhodora Halverson, Ronald and Liz Larson; special friend, Mary Ann Erickson; children and stepchildren, Linda (Tom) Peterson of Virginia, MN, Bruce (Theresa) Mogensen of Fredericksburg, VA, Greg Archibald of Tower, MN, Patti Jo Mogensen of Blaine, MN, Scott Archibald of St. Paul, MN and Rahn (Rosie) Mogensen of New Brighton, MN; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service with Military Honors will be held at the Halvorson-Taylor Funeral Home in Brainerd, MN on a date to be determined later. Interment will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans located north of Little Falls, MN at a later date. Donations may be made to the Brainerd, MN VFW Post 1647 Buddy Poppy program.
