Maxine Louise Hildreth

Maxine Louise (Wilgers) Hildreth age 84 of Isanti, formerly of Barrett, Minnesota passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughter’s home in Emily, Minnesota on Friday, March 18, 2022.

Maxine was born on February 23, 1938 in Clay Center, Kansas to Otto and Lulu Marie (Stunkel) Wilgers, the second of three children.

Growing up in Palmer, Kansas, she attended Palmer Grade School until the eighth grade, and graduated from Linn Rural High School in Linn, Kansas in 1956.

Maxine met Harry O. Hildreth, Jr. in 1960 at Club Royal in Linn, Kansas. They were married on November 6, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Palmer that same year.

The couple made their home in Minnesota, settling in rural Isanti in 1966 where they raised four children, and lived until they moved to Barrett, Minnesota in 2000 and then to Albany, Minnesota in 2015. In 2020 Maxine moved into The Lodge Senior Apartments, White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

Maxine was a stay at home mom while the children were young. Her working career included bookkeeper at Jack Roach Ford in Cambridge, Minnesota in the early 70s, and purchaser at Mate Punch and Die in Anoka, Minnesota, retiring in 2000.

Maxine’s faith was nurtured in a German Lutheran church. This faith was such a mature and sincere faith. It gave her a beautiful strength of character. She was deeply rooted and grounded in her Lutheran tradition. As a member of Long Lake Lutheran Church, Isanti, Minnesota, Maxine served for many years as Sunday school superintendent, as well as youth ministry leader for “Young Lutherans” in the 70s, and “Pioneers” in the 80s & 90s. An avid crocheter, she was a valuable member of the Prayer Shawl ministry at United Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake, Minnesota, where she also served as a Stephen’s minister.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.

Maxine is survived by daughters Michele Horwath (Matt), Denise Kneeland (Denny), Laurel Liebl (Jerry), and son Harry O. Hildreth, III (Kathy); grandchildren Bryan Belsheim (Keeshia), Benjamin Belsheim (Melanie), Rachel Belsheim, Christine Rivard (Kyle), Anne Liebl, Grace Liebl, Louise Liebl, Joseph Liebl, Harry O. Hildreth, IV and Alexander Hildreth; 9 great-grandchildren; brother Leonard (Alvena) Wilgers, sister Miriam (Don) Cowman; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service is being planned for a future date.
