Merlyn Rogge

Merlyn Paul Rogge, age 92 formerly of Verndale, passed away on July 4, 2019 at the Meadow Place Assisted Living in Long Prairie. Merlyn was born June 27,1927 in Wilkin Cty, MN to Erna (Roth) and George Rogge. Merlyn married Arayla Rach at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Verndale on June 27, 1952. Merlyn started working at the age of 12 on the neighbor’s farm. He graduated high school as Salutatorian. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17. Upon discharge he became a bricklayer. He was an excellent mason. Farming came later in life. Merlyn enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He also was an avid reader and was very musical, playing the ukulele and singing. Hunting with Max, his black lab was another passion which he passed on to his sons. His humor, wit and love will be greatly missed by his family. Preceded in death by his wife, Arayla; siblings, Dorothy, LaVerne, Bernard (Jim), Clarice, Delores,(Lolly) and Veryl. Merlyn will be deeply missed by his children, Jane (Gene) Eickhoff, of Long Prairie; Jerry (Arlene) Rogge, of Rogers; Rick (Cyndi) Rogge, of Verndale; Laurel (Roger) Houselog, of Staples; Diane (Brian) Harff, of Watkins; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Merlyn will be held on Thursday, July 11 , 2019 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Robin Collins officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, and on Wednesday from 5:00pm-7:00pm also at the church. Interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, Verndale, MN.
