Paula (Putzie) Swecker

May 23, 1953 — September 11, 2023

Paula Jean Swecker (“Putzie”), of Motley, passed away at her home surrounded by family, on Monday, September 11, 2023. She was born on May 23, 1953, to Alvera (Hurlbut) and Joseph Bremer in Staples, Minnesota. She was the youngest of seven children. At 12 years of age, she met Kenneth Swecker, and it was love at first sight. They were married on August 26, 1972, and continued to serve as an incredible example of love over their 51 years of marriage.

Putzie enjoyed life tremendously, and most would agree that she was indeed larger than life, especially for her diminutive stature. She was often silly and made everything fun, whether it was a holiday, or a last-minute weekend campfire. Visitors were always greeted with an offer of food, and she was known for her amazing cooking, especially family recipes that have been handed down through the generations. She loved animals, they adored her in return (especially “grand-dog Bonnie”), and the household was never without a pet or three. The tresses of many women and men were cut, colored, groomed and styled by her skillful hands during her 30+ year career as a hairdresser. She was fiercely competitive, especially at agate hunting, softball and various card games. She had a contagious laugh and a smile that

would, for lack of a better phrase, light up a room. She was also fiercely protective of those she

loved and she reveled in being a wife, mom, grandma, aunt, and friend.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Ken; children, Gretta (Joe) Trantina of Motley; Ken, Jr. of White Bear Lake; and, Sarah of Motley. She is also survived by beloved grandchildren, Michael, Owen and Caleb; as well as her sister, Ramona Blahosky of Pequot Lakes; brother, Rodger Bremer, of Motley; and many special nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Putzie was preceded in death by her parents; brother Joe Bremer; and, sisters Sylvia Erbe, Judy Stevenson, and Mary Kampa.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Motley Free Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will follow the services. Interment is at the Motley Public Cemetery. The service will also be available for viewing at:
