Rev. Walter Luther Brill

Rev. Walter Luther Brill God gave to Rev. Walter Luther Brill the gift of earthly life on April 2, 1941, born to Rev. Paul and Esther (Olsheske) Brill at Bartlett Township, MN. God gave him the gift of new life in Christ through the sacrament of Holy Baptism on April 14,1941, and he was confirmed in this Christian faith on May 5, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, MN. On June 10, 1972, at Immanuel Lutheran Church Waterloo, Iowa, God gave to Walter and Ruth Ann (Detmer) the gift of married life. Rev. Brill’s first Call was to Messiah Lutheran , Mandan, ND, being installed there in July 1967. Walter served there until 1977, when he accepted a Call to serve as Missionary -at-Large at Elk River/Big Lake, MN, to plant a new congregation. That congregation became Lord of Glory Lutheran, and he served there until August, 1990. At that time he accepted a Call to serve Trinity Lutheran, Virginia, MN, where he served from 1990 until 2004 when he retired from full time Pastoral Ministry. Rev. Brill and is wife, Ruth, have been blessed with three children, and seven grandchildren: Andrew and Tiffany Brill, Quinton, Greta and Adelle; Michael and Amy Guse, Ellanora, Walter and Norman; Robert and Sarah Stewart, Oswald, Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral services for Rev. Walter Luther Brill will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples with visitation from 9:30am-11:00am on Tuesday also at the church. Interment at the Benton County Cemetery in Sauk Rapids, MN. Walter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples, MN. On Friday, March 12, 2021, while at his home in Staples, God gave to Walter the gift of eternal life. Rev. Brill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul G. Brill; and brothers-in-law, Pete Greene, and Ken Swanson. Thankful to God for the privilege of sharing his life and waiting to join him in heaven are his wife Ruth; his children, Andrew, Amy, and Sarah and their families; sisters, Ethelyn Stahl, Beverly Swanson and Esther Green; sister-in-law, Geraldine Brill; his nieces and nephews; and the many friends God provided. May our Savior, Jesus Christ, who came for us all, give comfort and strength to Rev. Brill’s family and friends through His promise: “ I am the resurrection an the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die!” (John 11:24-26) In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, or Trinity Lutheran Church, Staples, MN.
