Richard was born on the family farm in St. Mathias to Edmund and Sadie (Hartman) Magnan. He was the eldest of 8 children. He graduated from St. Cloud State with a degree in education. Highlights of his career included his first teaching position in a one-room schoolhouse in the Ft. Ripley/St. Mathias area, and teaching at the St. Cloud Reformatory. He later went on to serve as principal for the Royalton and Oslo districts before retiring.
He loved the farm, deer hunting, motorcycling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. His “coffee rounds” were legendary as he visited everyone regularly, so he could stay in touch with what was going on in the neighborhood. On weekends, you would find him dancing and listening to music at his favorite dance halls.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Maryanne Zeddies; brothers, George and Ted (Fedore); sister-in-law, Marlene Magnan; and brothers-in-law, George Mankowski and Ron Williams. He is survived by sisters, Rose Mankowski and Patricia Williams; brothers, Eugene and John (Mary); sister-in law, Betty Magnan; brother-in-law, Dan Zeddies; his son, Chris (Darcy) Magnan; daughter, Heidi (Jim) Kraemer; grandchildren, Blake, Chelsea, Kayla (Taylor) Amiot, Ben, Daniel; great-grandchildren, Everleigh Masters and Oliver Amiot.
