Trissie Simmons

d. December 15, 2019

Trissie Michele Simmons went home to be with her Lord and Savior, December 15, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. Trissie was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on February 14, 1953 to Irma and Roy Joenks, Jr. She graduated from Pine River High School and then from Brainerd Community College with a degree in nursing. Trissie married the love of her life, Dave Simmons, on August 18, 1973. They were blessed with two children, Angie and Micah. Trissie worked as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital until her retirement earlier this year. She is known for her love of reading, quilting, traveling to Florida to visit family, traveling to Montana to hunt and four-wheel. Above all, Trissie loved her church, First Baptist Church in Baxter, MN. If the doors were open, she was there worshipping her Lord and serving in any capacity that she could. Cancer did not slow her down, it was only a bump in the road on this earth. Life continued and she fought the battle until the end. She used the disease to spread her faith and give hope to others. Trissie is survived by her husband, Dave Simmons; daughter, Angie (Nate) Rodvik of Mpls, MN; son, Micah (Vanessa) Simmons, Naples, FL; granddaughters, Ashley Rodvik, Elise Rodvik, Stella Simmons; sisters, Sharon Stene, Odessa Joenks; and many nieces & nephews. Trissie is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; brothers, Wally Joenks, Dennis Joenks; and brother in law, Allen Stene. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 18th from 5-7 PM at First Baptist Church in Baxter, MN. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 19th at 10:30 AM with visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will follow at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family. Halvorson-Taylor Funeral Home is serving the family.
